Hoe meer zielen hoe meer vreugd!! En zeker een welkome aanvulling van het FIA GT1 veld.
(nu nog een Ferrari 599 GTB in GT1 trim, maar dat zal wel wishfull thinking zijn)

Alleen hoop ik toch dat ik eens wat meer van de FIA op tv kan zien zonder een duur betaalpakket aan te schaffen.

16/03/2009 Phoenix Racing Announce Drivers of their two Audi R8 LMS
2008 FIA GT Team Vice Champions Phoenix Racing have announced their driver line up for the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship. Christopher Haase and Christopher Mies will drive one of the team’s R8s, while two Swiss drivers, Jean-Denis Deletraz and Lloyd La Marca, will drive the other.

Deletraz raced last year with his fellow countryman Marcel Fässler in a Phoenix Corvette in the FIA GT Championship, taking the team to the second place in the Teams championship. Talented youngster Mies won the Division II of the ADAC Procar-Series in 2008. His new team-mate Haase has competed for two years in the ADAC GT Masters, winning the title in 2007 and finishing second in 2008. He also competed in FIA GT3 last year and also won the Sports Light category of the GT4 European Cup.

The sponsor of Haase’s car is the Online Broker flatex; Christopher Mies’ partners are Rheinfelden Miguss. As last year in the FIA GT, the Deletraz/ La Marca car will carry the colours of ACM, an online currency platform.

“With the R8 LMS, Audi has given Teams and Drivers an excellent basis to enter national and international race series on a professional basis,” team owner Ernst Moser explained. “We will use this potential to give our partners and sponsors some more highlights in the coming year.”

As well as the FIA GT3 European Championship, Phoenix Racing will also compete in the ADAC GT Masters with 2007 FIA GT3 European Champion Henri Moser and Michael Outzen from Denmark. The third Championship will be the Belgian GT Championship, with two local drivers at the wheel: Jean-François Hemroulle and Tim Verbergt.

FIA-GT: Argentinië afgevoerd, Paul Ricard opnieuw op de kalender

De FIA World Motor Sport Council, welke vandaag is samengekomen in Parijs, heeft enkele belangrijke wijzigingen doorgevoerd op de kalender van het FIA-GT kampioenschap. Zo is de overzeese trip naar Argentinië afgevoerd, en wordt er op Paul Ricard een wedstrijd georganiseerd op 3 en 4 oktober. Het FIA-GT circus was in 2006 al eerder te gast op Paul Ricard. Toen was het de Belgische Corvette C6.R met het rijderstrio Anthony Kumpen, Bert Longin en Mike Hezemans die de zege mee naar huis nam.

Al eerder werd bekendgemaakt dat het FIA-GT3 en FIA-GT4 kampioenschap in datzelfde weekend zouden racen. Nu zullen dus alle drie de FIA-GT kampioenschappen afgewerkt worden in hetzelfde weekend in Le Castellet. Door het toevoegen van Paul Ricard op de kalender is er ook in 2009 weer een Franse FIA-GT meeting, wat oorspronkelijk niet het geval was.

De wedstrijd op Bucharest is vervroegd van eind augustus naar 9 augustus. Dat wil dus zeggen dat de teams na de etmaalrace op Spa 'amper' twee weken de tijd hebben om op adem te komen, alvorens ze weer opnieuw aan het racen gaan op de stratenomloop. Ook de tweede Belgische meeting, op Zolder, is van datum veranderd. In plaats van 11 oktober zal de race nu in het weekend van 25 oktober doorgaan.

PK Carsport confirm 2009 season

For the 2009 racing season, the regular driver pairing of Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin will be split into 2 Corvette Motorsport teams. Bert will be heading to the Belgian squad of SRT while Anthony will stay at PK Carsport to partner with former teammate Mike Hezemans.

"Last year Mike finished second in the championship. We both have a lot of experience with the Corvette, our team knows the car through & through, we are both very fast drivers ... It doesn't need to be said anymore that we don't just want a podium finish, but that victory is all that matters!" Says Anthony Kumpen

"We both have a lot of experience in FIA GT and the only aim is to win races and go for the championship. I think we really have a good chance, we have a great team, the best car and a very strong driver line up. I think this is the best possibility for me and mike to go for the championship, but we still need some budget."

"The budget is around until after the Spa 24 Hours race, so until the half of the championship. At the moment we are still negotiating with some partners. Hopefully we will be able to announce very soon that we can run the full championship."

Anthony also reflected on his plans in the 2009 Belgian GT: "The Belgian GT Championship isn't at the moment possible for me since I haven't found a good opportunity" says Anthony Kumpen. " That can still change, but driving to drive isn't something that I plan to do, my record for the most victories and podium finishes in the Belcar (of Belgian GT) I would like to defend in a competitive way, so I still hope that something good will show up in the next couple of weeks. If nothing shows up then I will only start in the 24 u of Zolder. Also here I'm the record holder with 4 victories and would love to add a 5 th one."

With the start of the 2009 season less than a month away, the first opportunity to see the 2009 FIA GT Championship and FIA GT3 European Championship teams in action will be the Official Test Days, on April 6th and 7th, which will be held at the magnificent Paul Ricard HTTT facility. The circuit, in the South of France, will host a round of both Championships on October 4th, opening its gates to the public after many years as a pure testing facility.

Currently, a record 49 cars are due to take part in the two-day test session, from categories GT1, GT2, G2, GT3, GT4 and Supersport.

In GT1, 13 cars will be taking part, including two Maserati MC 12, four Corvette C6R, four Saleen S7R, two Ford GT1 and a Nissan GT-R. GT2 has ten cars testing : six Ferrari 430 GT2 cars, three Porsche 997 GT3 RSR and a Lamborghini Gallardo. A sole Porsche bi-Turbo will test in G2. All full-season entries are obliged, according to the regulations, to send a car to the test days.

GT3 has a bumper grid of 21 cars, with the Aston Martin DBRS9, Audi R8 LMS, BMW Alpina B6 GT3, Corvette Z06 GT3, Ferrari 430 Scuderia, Ford GT, Jaguar XKR-S, Lamborghini Gallardo, Morgan Aero Super Sport and Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S all due to take part in the test sessions.

For the GT4 European Cup, Maserati will be launching their Maserati Gran Turismo MC GT4 car and three Donkervoort D8GT cars from Donkervoort Automobilien.

April 6th will also be the Media Day, with a press conference at 12:30 to launch the new season, including the unveiling of the first examples of the new generation of GT1 cars, the NISMO-built Nissan GT-R and the Ford GT1 from Matech Concepts.

The full-season entry list for the 2009 season of the FIA GT Championship will be issued on Monday during the press conference, including 25 entries. “Despite the difficult economic times, I am delighted with the grid we have for 2009,” Stephane Ratel, CEO of SRO Motorsports Group, Promoter of the FIA GT Championship. “This proves that the slightly reduced calendar, the generous team assistance and the new tyre regulations have played a part in reducing the costs involved.”
