United Sports Car Championship 2014

Het samenvoegen van de Grand AM en de ALMS brengt ons een nieuw kampioenschap en een mooi agendalijstje voor 2014:

25/26 januari – Rolex 24 Daytona
15 maart – 12U Sebring
12 april – Long Beach
4 mei – Laguna Seca
31 mei – Belle Isle, Detroit
29 juni – Watkins Glen
13 juli – Mosport
25 juli – Indianapolis
10 augustus – Road America
24 augustus – Virginia
20 september – Circuit of the Americas, Austin
4 oktober – Petit Le Mans, Road Atlanta

Niet alle klasses rijden alle races. Zo is de Grand Prix of Long Beach voorbehouden aan de Prototype- en GT-Le-Mans-klasses, terwijl op Belle Isle in Detroit alleen de Protoype, PC en GT Daytona-klasses in actie komen.
Ook op Virginia is het programma beperkt, met separate races voor GT Le Mans/GT Daytona en de PC-klasse. Elke klasse heeft in totaal elf races gedurende het seizoen.

Ook porsche zal officieel vertegenwoordigd zijn in dit kampioenschap

Voor Porsche wordt 2014 het jaar van de grote terugkeer in de endurance racerij. Nadat werd aangekondigd dat men een LMP1 bouwt voor het WEC en een 911 GT3 klaarstoomt voor het USCC (United SportCar Championship), liet het Duitse merk in Austin weten ook officieel present te zullen zijn in het nieuwe Amerikaanse kampioenschap. In dit kampioenschap zal Porsche echter vertegenwoordigd zijn in de GT categorie waar het twee nieuwe 911 RSR zal inzetten, bemand door piloten die officieel aan het merk verbonden zijn.

Two Audi R8 LMS for Full Inaugural TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Season
November 11, 2013 – Sonoma, California

'' Following a decade in the American Le Mans Series and coming off of a team championship clinching GTC class win in the final ALMS race at Road Atlanta, Flying Lizard Motorsports today announced that it would join the new TUDOR United SportsCar Championship with two cars to be run in the GT Daytona class for the 2014 season. The team will continue to campaign the No 45 as it has since the team's inception while adding the No 35 to its stable, replacing No 44. Flying Lizard will announce its 2014 driver lineup at a later date.

For the first time in its history, the team is working with a new manufacturer, and has taken delivery of two Audi R8 LMS race cars for the 2014 racing program. Based on the R8 street car, the R8 LMS has had significant success in GT3 format racing worldwide, including victory in the GT class in the 2013 edition of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Team Principal and Driver Seth Neiman on the shift from Porsche: "This is certainly a substantial change for the team as Porsche has been a great partner for many years. Equally, Audi is a great company with a spectacular racing pedigree, a serious commitment to GT racing, and a clear commitment to forging an alliance to continue both of our winning traditions far into the future. They know how to win, we know how to win, and we both are totally focused on doing just that. This is a strong foundation for a long and successful relationship."

Flying Lizard will take to the track with its new cars for the first time on November 16th and 17th at Sebring International Raceway and on November 19th and 20th at Daytona International Speedway for the IMSA sanctioned season opening tests for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.''

Was wel te verwachten....

Als je mee wilt gaan doen met de USCC en voor de knikkers wilt gaan en je hebt Porsche aan het begin van het GT-jaar (lees: 2013) bedankt voor de eer, dan gaat Porsche verder kijken en na een costumeryear met CORE gaat Porsche samen hun voor de GT'LM klasse en zal daar dan ook de meeste focus leggen, ook met de prive Porsches.
Dan zit er niks anders op dan mee te doen met de Daytona-GT en daarvoor heb je of een Audi of een Ferrari nodig......

Ben allang blij dat het geen Ferrari is.

En hopelijk gaat Seth niet voor dit ontwerp.

Kijk eens naar Project Libra. Die testen met een wagen uit 2006?! Die snap ik alleen even niet.

With the regulations for the LMP2 cars to be performance balanced with the DP Grand-Am cars , Project Libra feels that the Radical SR9 Roush Yates combination can be a credible performer as a true cost capped car.

En de auto heeft vorig jaar nog op Laguna Seca gereden.

Het Tudor United Sports Car Championship (TUSSC) heeft voor het eerste seizoen 60 deelnemers weten aan te trekken. Daarmee kan het kampioenschap dat tot stand kwam na het samengaan van de American Le Mans Series en Grand Am meteen goede papieren voorleggen, al valt ‘Prototype’ (de top klasse) over de breedte misschien wat mager uit. Van de 60 startnummers die het hele seizoen zullen afwerken werden er 25 toegewezen aan prototypes (P + PC) en 35 aan GT’s (GTLM + GTD). Bovendien wordt het veld verder aangevuld met 8 wagens voor de wedstrijden die samen het North American Endurance Championship (NAEC) uitmaken; zijnde Daytona (24u), Sebring (12u), Petit Le Mans (10u) en Watkins Glen (6u).
